Treat Fibromyalgia with  Heart Nutrients? Absolutely

Recently I asked my Facebook readers which health topics they wanted me to write about in my blog—and one overwhelming response is fibromyalgia. The good news, as I’ll explain in a minute, is that the same nutrients that support the heart can help with fibromyalgia.

What Exactly Is Fibromyalgia?

Simply stated, it’s a recognized chronic illness manifested by widespread musculoskeletal aches and pains, stiffness, fatigue, and insomnia. The syndrome is affecting a growing number of people, striking more women and children than men and all age groups.

Research has shown that those with fibromyalgia have capillary walls which have thickened, so they’re unable to deliver enough oxygen—which literally drains energy from the muscles. This energy depletion unleashes a cascade of physiological events that cause mild to severe pain; muscle stiffness and soreness, and overwhelming fatigue.

Years ago, I found that a combination of heart nutrients that I call my “Awesome Foursome”—including D-ribose, L-carnitine, Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), and magnesium—can do wonders for fibromyalgia by maximizing energy production.

To understand why, think of your body as a car. D-ribose is the gas, CoQ10 is the sparkplug, L-carnitine is the oil that allows the engine to run smoothly, and magnesium is the electrical system. When we turn on the enzymes that drive the metabolic reactions, magnesium keeps those systems running. Together, these nutrients literally refuel every muscle in your body—helping to re-energize muscles that have been drained by fibromyalgia.

So, how much of each nutrient should you take? For general heart health, and fibromyalgia, I recommend:

  • D-ribose: 5 grams, 2–3 times a day,
  • L-carnitine: 1-2 grams of L-carnitine fumarate in pided doses,
  • Coenzyme Q10: 90-180 mg,
  • Magnesium: 400 mg, 1–2 times a day.

In addition to nutrients, I also recommend Earthing for fibromyalgia. The Earth’s surface contains a limitless number of free electrons that are continually replenished through solar radiation and lightning strikes; your body naturally absorbs these particles when you make physical contact with the ground. In the body, these electrons have an anti-inflammatory effect because they reduce the free-radical activity that causes inflammation and chronic pain.
