Timing Doses Of High Blood Pressure Medications

My blood pressure is high upon awakening and low when I go to sleep in the evening. I'm on high blood pressure medication, which I take at 12:30 p.m. every day. Do you have any ideas why this is happening?

High blood pressure medication levels can peak and trough (hit a low level) over time after dosing. If you are taking your prescription drug at noon and your bedtime blood pressure is low, it may be that, upon awakening, your blood level is at the trough level or low point. You should talk to your doctor about your dosing schedule.

In addition, your body's cortisol level, which drives up blood pressure, is highest in the morning. Your adrenals may be overstressed. You can ask your doctor for a 24-hour salivary cortisol level test (samples are saved every four hours for 24 hours).
