The Teeth-Organ Connection
If you are a subscriber to Heart, Health & Nutrition, then you likely know that Dr. Sinatra has been fighting off a hip replacement for a few years now. What you may not know is that, according to Chinese medicine, the teeth overlay a complex meridian system that represents a map of the human body.
According to this systematic view of our biological terrains, each tooth overlies specific organs and tissues. In some situations, addressing a problematic tooth can assuage a more systemic problem. (For more on the subject, I recommend the book Whole Body Dentistry by our good friend and personal dentist Mark Breiner, DMD.)
So, while we were in California visiting with Richard Hansen, DMD, FACAD, a dentist with some cutting-edge approaches to dental health, Dr. Sinatra asked him to see if he could find any connection between his oral health and his inflamed hip. (Apparently my husband will try almost anything to avoid hip surgery!)
As it turned out, Dr. Hansen concurred with Dr. Breiner that a tooth that had had a root canal may be implicated in his hip joint problems. Dr. Sinatra will follow up on this in August, and we’ll let you know how it turns out!
