What Failed HDL Drug Tests Mean for You

The April 2007 issue of Forbes magazine makes reference to several tests you should know about:

  • In one test study, the people taking the drug being tested to increase HDL levels died at a higher rate than those not taking the trial drug.
  • Three other studies tested trial drugs that didn’t do anything to unclog arteries.
  • Another drug tested failed to fight heart disease in the subjects involved.

You see, while on the surface these may simply appear to be failed attempts at drug testing, there’s much more to it than that. These results are calling into question whether having high HDL is always good. The research suggests to me that this may not be the case.
