Exercise: A Key Component of Natural Weight Loss

My patients often ask me what exercise is best for maintaining a normal, healthy weight. I answer that the best exercise is the one you’ll do. There's no point recommending an exercise if the person you're recommending it to won't do it.

I also tell patients to think of it as "movement" rather than "exercise." That doesn't sound like so much work, and, after all, the whole goal of exercise is to get out and get moving.

But remember, if you don't use it, you'll lose it—and I’m not talking about weight. So, make a commitment to get moving at least every other day. I guarantee that if you incorporate moderate exercise—movement, weight training, stretching, or another favorite activity—into your life, you’ll look in the mirror and begin to see the results you’d been hoping for.

Second, your non-exercising muscles no longer need that extra sugar we talked about earlier, which increases the likelihood that it will be taken to the fat cells for storage.

That’s why I recommend you add resistance training to your exercise routine if you’re looking to lose body fat. Read more…
