Three Steps to Control Stress

Stress is beneficial, in the right amount and at the right time. It improves vision and mental focus, and causes the release of adrenaline to power muscles. As I’ve written before, constant stress has the opposite effects on your body and mind. Your cardiovascular system, immune function, digestion, weight, sleep, mood, and focus all suffer. If your stress load becomes overwhelming, then it’s to your advantage to get it back under control. Here’s a quick list of ways to manage your stress:

  • Breathe properly. People under stress begin to breathe shallowly, and deep breathing is a quick way to bring yourself back down.
  • Be thankful. No matter what’s going on in your life, it never hurts to remember that you have things to be grateful for.
  • Support your adrenals. Stress puts a day-in day-out demand on your “stress glands.” Eventually they can no longer respond properly.
