What supplements can or can't I take while on Coumadin?

Drug-supplement interactions with Coumadin (warfarin) include

  • St. John's wort
  • Garlic
  • Nattokinase
  • Vitamin K

You shouldn't take these at all while taking Coumadin (warfarin).

Also, don't take more than 200 IU of mixed tocopherols (vitamin E) or 2 grams of fish oil.

You'll still want to eat green leafy vegetables for dietary vitamin K, but make sure that your INR (a measure of your blood's clotting ability) is checked routinely by your doctor, and that your Coumadin dosage is adjusted as needed.
