3 Hidden Heart Health Risk Factors

When it comes to heart health, there are many known risk factors that we’re all aware of—like high blood pressure and obesity. But there are also many “hidden risk factors” that are lurking in our daily lives, impacting our hearts without our knowledge. Here are three that everyone should be aware of.

1. Products labeled “zero trans fats.” Many people don’t realize that a food product can legally advertise that it contains no trans fats, as long as it contains less than 1/2 gram of trans fats. So, you need to ignore that claim and read the ingredient list carefully to see if contains “hydrogenated” or “partially hydrogenated” oil—which are trans fats.

2. Cordless phones, microwave ovens, and other electronic appliances. Many of the appliances we have in our homes are bombarding us with electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) and radio frequencies (RFs). Research has shown that even a simple cordless phone is like having a cell phone tower in your home. All of these EMFs can provoke irregular heartbeats, faster heart rates, and even high blood pressure. Here’s how to protect yourself

3. Unreleased emotions. Studies show that those who bottle up their emotions have four times the incidence of heart disease than those who release their sadness or anger. In fact, people with depression have four times the incidence of heart disease than those who don’t. This is a much bigger heart risk than cholesterol, or other more risk factors. Here’s how to achieve better mind-body balance

Now it’s your turn: Have any of these risk factors affected you?
